When I first began to speak of the Ghost Children of San Antonio in my seminars, the story was largely unfamiliar to people outside of Texas. But it’s more then just a ghost story, it’s a part of American history. In 1949 a school bus filled with children stalled as it tried to climb a small grade on the tracks of a rail road crossing located at the corners of Shane and Villamain Roads, just off of SE Loop 410. These were times when many rural crossings had no signals and were designed to accommodate trains, not vehicles. Wood placed between tracks on the crossing would often warp and create a trap for tires and little thought was given to keeping the grade even on both sides of the crossing.

Meanwhile as hundreds of thousands seek refuge in Texas going the other way are nearly a 10,000 volunteers from Texas and 800 Utility Workers to help survivors and then to start on the long job of getting everything back working.

When I take a family vacation I want a little bit of everything - some fun, some thrills, some culture, some good food, a learning experience. San Antonio has it all! If this will be your first San Antonio vacation, you almost definitely need to plan it downtown. The downtown area is the key part of San Antonio’s tourist draw, with excitement through the day and well into the night. A walk along San Antonio’s famous Paseo del Rio is enough to send any tourist into a state of relaxation. This river walk winds through some of the downtown’s most exciting areas.

This beautiful, unique city carries the flavor and sounds of Native Americans, the aggressive and lonely spirit of Wild West as well as the beautiful and creative culture of African Americans. In fact, the city has had such a polyphonic history that if I keep telling you about all of its influences you will barely have any time to read about the actual city!
